It’s finally getting warm in my neck of the woods. We had snow in April. SNOW. IN APRIL. Granted, I’m used to it by now, but the warm sunshine is so welcome after a long winter. We actually got lucky this year with a rather mild winter, but Spring has taken its sweet time coming out from under winter’s lingering cover. As we head into warmer months, this summer promises to be the busiest and most exciting yet.
For starters, Dan and I were invited to seven weddings. Yes, you read that right – SEVEN. So many close friends are getting married this year that together, Dan and I are in the bridal parties of three of them. This will be the first time I get to stand next to a friend on their big day. I’m excited. Weddings are a good time, especially when they are the weddings of your nearest and dearest friends. We have two in Florida. I haven’t been to Florida in years now, and I’m looking forward to seeing how my old home has changed over the years. I have so many memories in the Sunshine State. The rest of our weddings are in Indiana, Rhode Island and Chicago. I already know that we’re not going to be able to go to all seven weddings, but we’re going to try like to hell to make it happen.
On top of that, Dan graduates in a month. My parents will be in Iowa for the summer, and I’m hoping they’ll be able to come down to watch Dan walk across the stage. I’m so proud of him. The job search has been such a struggle for him (moreso then we anticipated), but I absolutely know that he will be fine in the end. God may just have a completely different plan then he’s got drawn out for himself right now.
Once Dan is working again, I’d love to take another trip abroad. Hopefully that can be this summer. Our last trip abroad was in May 2013 when we traveled with a group of friends to Costa Rica. It was such a fabulous time. I did an immense amount of planning for that trip and everything went exactly as planned. For our next trip, I’d love to check out Switzerland or Ireland. Just me and my husband celebrating his graduation and our future. We’ve also been talking more about starting a family. For so long, I just haven’t felt ready – waiting endlessly for the perfect moment to commit to the biggest decision of our lives. I realize there is never going to be a perfect time in our lives, but Dan does need to be working. It’s pretty exciting – the prospect of being future parents.
To round out the summer, a near and dear friend from high school will also be visiting me during the Labor Day weekend. I’m already daydreaming of all the fun I know we’re going to have. Rekindling hysterical laughter and sweet memories over drinks in the sunshine. We were inseparable in high school – cracking jokes in Health (he made me laugh until I cried), and complaining about homework or how ridiculous a test was. I haven’t seen this friend in over 10 years, but we’ve managed to stay in touch thanks to social media. Summers in the city are exquisite so I have to make sure he gets a taste of all the awesome things there are to do here.
Summer, I can’t wait to see you again.
