How the hell did I save for planning a wedding and go to law school?
Easy. I never buy anything. Only what is absolutely necessary. Trust me when I say I don’t make enough money at work, but I’m sure a lot of people feel that way. I save whatever I don’t spend on groceries, food and bills. We don’t even have cable at home and if I didn’t need my cell like I do I’d contemplate getting rid of that too. I just don’t “need” all that stuff.
Now, I will be in some debt with law school, but the education should hopefully prove to be more valuable so I’m not really too nervous about $1000 loan repayments for the next 10 years. Hell if I’m lucky, I may be able to pay it before then. But our savings will buffer cost of living expenses which is a big thing plus any scholarship monies always helps.
I’ve hoarded and saved money since I was a little girl. The other reason is that I have my awesome fiance who has also saved some money to help finance our wedding and law school related expenses.
I can’t tell you how important it is to save. We won’t be in any debt once the wedding comes and passes. That is a huge weight off our shoulders. Also, I feel we have booked some really great deals on wedding vendors so this is great. Our wedding is a little over what we wanted to spend originally but with the help of my parents (they are pitching in for my hair and make-up and wedding dress) and taking it one month at a time it’s not so bad. If I didn’t want to get married with all our friends and family in a beautiful area professing my love to my soul mate I’d just go to the courthouse. But alas, that’s exactly what I want to do. I can’t wait to get married. But honestly, I don’t buy anything. Ever. I can’t tell you the last time I went clothes shopping or bought anything beyond a haircut and the occasional hair dye at Wal-mart. While it’d be nice to indulge every once in a while…my future is more important to me.
I’m so looking forward to marrying the man of my dreams and going to law school. Those are two things I can’t express in words how excited I am about them. Hard work does pay off!
